• Lord Turner champions environmental taxes • Investment in renewable energy would boost employment Adair Turner, the outspoken head of the City regulator, believes that, whichever party wins the next election, the government should embark on a tax and spend programme to green the economy and create jobs. Lord Turner, head of the Financial Services Authority, created a stir last year when he said that much of the City’s activities were ” socially useless “. He could find himself on a collision course with the Conservatives, who have pledged to take an axe to public spending immediately after the election, if they win it.
