3D invisibility cloak fashioned out of metamaterials
Those HDTV manufacturers did tell us that 3D was going to be everywhere this year, didn’t they? Keeping up with the times, scientists investigating potential methods for rendering physical objects invisible to the human eye have now moved to the full three-dimensional realm. The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology has developed a photonic metamaterial that can make things disappear when viewed from all angles, advancing from previous light refraction methods that only worked in 2D. It sounds similar to what Berkeley researchers developed not too long ago , and just like Berkeley’s findings, this is a method that’s still at a very early stage of development and can only cover one micrometer-tall bumps

Review: Set card game on the iPhone is oh so close to the perfect puzzle app
Filed under: iPhone , iPod touch , App Review The idea behind Set , the now-classic card/puzzle game, can be mind-numbingly difficult to explain. Some people just can’t wrap their heads around the “all the same or all different concept.” Of course, some people get it right away. For both types, the new Set app [$2.99] for the iPhone and iPod touch is a fine challenge, even if it’s not perfect in all aspects. Nokia asks the Internet to help design a phone
Nokia is tapping into the collective wisdom of mobile technology enthusiasts on the Internet as it designs a new smartphone concept device. The handset maker has launched a new project called Design by Community which aims to collect feedback about preferred device characteristics from visitors to the Nokia Conversations blog. The website has a set of sliders that can be used to select a desired phone configuration within certain parameters. When the user has selected their optimal configuration, they can click a “submit” button to send their choices to Nokia.

Windows Phone 7 Tablet: Giant Zune
Whoa there, big boy! Windows Phone 7 isn’t even powering a real smartphone yet, and we already have a tablet concept based on the platform, created by designer Umang Dokey . It’s a sexy-looking beast, with an 8” screen, two joysticks on the back and a built-in stand that turns it into a coffee table-style PC. The designer has also envisioned 3D video calls and a keyboard built into the stand, but let’s not get too excited about it all yet: it’s just a concept, very far from being an actual product. Check out a video demonstration below.
